A Vision for Our Second Century

The Ursuline High School Centennial Capital Campaign is designed to promote both the growth of our facility and enhancement of our curriculum. Each year Ursuline must respond to new challenges and demands to ensure its future. Therefore, we are in a position where we have to be reactive to the needs of our students, but also proactive with our endowment and campus expansion.

A committee of 26 began to meet in 1999 through 2000 in preparation for the centennial. That committee was presented with the job of assessing every aspect of Ursuline High School. The four strongest recommendations were the need for a strong endowment, the need for renovations of the existing facility, the potential for campus expansion, and a cash reserve fund for operating expenses.

Centennial Capital Campaign Goals

  • $1 Million for the scholarship purposes through endowment building.
  • $1.25 Million for renovation projects in the existing structures.
  • $1.5 Million for expansion, perimeter property improvements, and new construction.
  • $330,000 for a Cash Reserve Fund for the support of the general operating budget

Endowment Building: $1 Million

Ursuline High School has a history of impressive endowment support; however, the absence of large, upper middle class constituency makes Ursuline susceptible to downturns in the local economy. Since 1995, twenty-two new endowed scholarships have been created, bringing the total number of endowed scholarships to sixty-four. Ursuline offers nearly 50% of its students some form of financial aid. In the 2003-2004 school year, over $285,000 in aid was disbursed to 249 students.

Facility Renovations: $1.25 Million

Ursuline High School consists of two combined structures. One structure was built in 1924, and the second in 1956. Although the buildings were constructed with excellent design and superior building materials, many renovations need to be made.

Campus Expansion: $1.5 Million

The expansion of Ursuline High School’s athletic programs has created a need for additional facilities. These facilities would include a new indoor athletic facility, a larger weight and conditioning center, a wrestling practice area, and an auxiliary gymnasium. There are currently 18 major sports at Ursuline as well as a variety of student activities that require use of the gym.

A new Athletic Complex would allow many groups and organizations to conduct activities simultaneously. In addition, the expansion would allow Ursuline to acquire the parking facility directly across from Ursuline on Wick Avenue. As a result of the campaign thus far Ursuline has acquired the parking facility directly across the street on Wick Avenue and an attractive fence and landscaping has been added and this area has become more esthetically pleasing.
